This page contains two photographic essays that tell stories of how migrants and non-foreign-born people in Edinburgh have teamed up as part of voluntary association in that city. The photos of the Baharat Collective show the reciprocity that we mention in the ‘About’ section of the website and which can exist in the contact between Southern Europeans and non-foreign-born Scots in Edinburgh: the band comprises people from Southern Europe who live in Edinburgh and neither isolate themselves from the non-foreign-born people nor simply try to adapt to the lifestyles of the latter. Rather, they help spread sounds from the Mediterranean region to inspire people from various origins, including non-foreign-born ones, living in Edinburgh.
